Colleen Copelan, MD.

She uses integrative psychiatry in order to develop a comprehensive treatment plan, working in conjunction with a patient's doctors, pediatricians, and nutritionists, as necessary. She has expertise in helping with the broad range of child and adolescent psychiatric disorders, including eating disorders in teens, and believes in providing an intensive outpatient program in order to avoid hospitalization.

Dr. Copelan earned her Bachelor of Arts at Bennington College in Vermont. She then earned her Master of Medical Science at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire, before earning her medical degree at the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine. Following her medical degree, she completed her internship in internal medicine and psychiatry at the LA County/USC Medical Center, where she also completed her residency in psychiatry. Dr. Copelan then worked as a clinical associate at the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute.

Since 1974, Dr. Copelan has worked in private practice settings in general psychiatry and medicine. She has also worked as a staff psychiatrist at various facilities throughout California, including Camarillo State Hospital, the Ventura County Behavioral Health Department, Ventura County Jail, Vista Del Mar Hospital, and the Peer Review Committee at Vista Del Mar Hospital.

Dr. Copelan is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Adolescent Psychiatry, with added qualifications in Addiction Psychiatry. She is a member of numerous associations and professional organizations, including the American Society of Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Psychiatric Association, the California Psychiatric Association, the Southern California Psychiatric Society Ethics Committee, and the Delegate California Medical Association.

Dr. Copelan is also an Associate Professor at USC Keck School of Medicine teaching Introduction to Clinical Medicine through the Family Practice Department. She has also lectured on the topic of psychiatry at several professional groups and programs, including Women’s Self-Esteem Groups, High School Substance Abuse Programs, the Foundation for Pet Provided Therapy, and the Cancer Center of Ventura.
